Grand Opening and Retrospective
Four years ago, before Roxanne and I were married, I began to dream of having a retrospective of Roxanne's work. I had seen some of her early sculptures in magazines but the idea took hold the night I first had dinner at Roxanne's parents home in Santa Fe.
Her art could be seen in almost every room, posters for the Santa Fe Opera that were commissioned when she was 10, a figure carved in limestone, even her dog made in clay when she was three.
Roxanne's genius is her ability to portray rich emotional expression in her sculptures; but what struck me that night was that she has created a three dimensional autobiography. What I was seeing was the history of Roxanne's life as it is written on the faces of her sculptures.
Questions came to mind. Does she ever regret revealing so much of her inner life? How has her technical skill evolved? What I wanted was a slide show with Roxanne telling the story of each piece within the context of her life at that time.
And so this is really happening…. but we need your help. We have lost track of some of Roxanne's favorite pieces and wonder if you have a sculpture you would be willing to lend for our Grand Opening. What we would like is to have the Retrospective run until August 2007 with different pieces being lent to the gallery at different times. That way the show stays fresh and no one has to be without his or her artwork for more than a few months. Call 505-455-3037.
Last of all we would love to have you visit at the Roxanne Tower Gallery, were open every day except Sunday! .
